MOTU School is back in Session

This Friday (11 Aug.) at 01:00 UTC, Jordan Mantha (aka LaserJock) will be leading a MOTU School session on Ubuntu packaging in #ubuntu-motu-school on Freenode. If you have ever wondered how those .debs are made, this session will be a great opportunity get started. He will introduce concepts noted in the Ubuntu Packaging Guide and will point out resources for learning more about packaging. Everyone is welcome to sit in!

As always, IRC logs of the session will be posted on the Ubuntu wiki soon afterward, so people who are unable to attend can follow the transcripts.

For those of you who like to read ahead (you know who you are), some advance reading will be posted at the Packaging Basics school session wikipage.

Update: Vid Ayer tells us: Jordan Mantha has kindly decided to repeat the session for the benefit of people in European time zones and will hold the session first at 01:00 UTC and a repeat at 17:00 UTC.

MOTU School Transcripts

Kevin Cole has concocted a nice transcript of December’s MOTU School session, “Packaging without debhelper and/or CDBS”. Paul Sladen added his own notes and files for those who want the short, short version of the tutorial.

Stephan Hermann is also looking for more volunteers to speak about special topics for anyone who is interested.

MOTU School Lecture Coming Up

Just a friendly reminder that the first live MOTU School series will be taking place the 10th of December at 1770 UTC on #ubuntu-motu-school on irc.freenode.net. Andrew Mitchell (ajmitch) will be chairing the session “Packaging without debhelper and/or CDBS”. Andrew is a Debian Developer and MOTU, and will be focusing on the raw guts of the Debian packaging toolchain. The intent is to give participants a deeper understanding of packaging techniques to further educate the pool of budding Ubuntu developers.

We’ve got the event up on the calendar, so check it out if you are interested in brushing up those debian/rules skills. For a better understanding of what MOTU School is about, make sure you read up Stephan Hermann’s goals for the project.

MOTU Report - Issue 9

Daniel Holbach of the MOTU team has posted the latest report on MOTU Issues:

October was very exciting. We released Breezy Badger’s Universe and Multiverse with less bugs and more thrilling software. Thank you everybody who helped to make this possible.

Release Party Time!

It’s that time again! After an arduous six months the Breezy release process is finally nearing completion. Traditionally, Ubunteros from around the world gather around local pubs and establishments to celebrate the release of our favorite distribution, where they can eat, drink, be merry, and share tall tales of the development cycle.

You can find parties and link up information at the release party page. Don’t forget to submit your release party photos to the gallery.
